Phonics and Reading K

Horizons Kindergarten Phonics and Reading is a phonetically based word recognition and early reading program curriculum that serves as an alternative to the LIFEPAC curriculum. Students learn to identify the name and sounds of each letter through picture association with a sequential alphabet story. Its creative and colorful approach makes learning language fun. Basic language concepts are taught through brightly illustrated readers that emphasize comprehension and language skills. Subjects include the alphabet and letter sounds, consonants and vowels, blended sounds, reading, spelling, rhyming, sequence, nouns, verbs, pronouns and contractions. Constant review of previous concepts helps students achieve mastery learning.

Phonics and Reading 1

Similar to the other Horizons materials, there are 160 lessons and 16 tests contained in the two student workbooks. The Teacher's Handbook includes a student page along with the instructions and information needed for the lesson as well as plenty of tips and teaching strategies. Lessons explore the phonetic sounds and guide the students as they practice the concepts, helping the student become a proficient reader one step at a time. Memorization of phonics/spelling rules assists the student in recognizing the relationship between letters and speech sounds, enabling them to decode new words.
