LOOKING FORWARD TO LEXINGTON
The good Lord willing, the messengers of the churches of the American Baptist Association will meet in Lexington, Kentucky on June 19, 20 and 21 for the 93rd meeting. I am really looking forward to the meeting in Lexington. The Lord blessed with a wonderful meeting in Daytona with over 2,400 in attendance. I prayerfully encourage the pastors and church members to begin making plans now to attend the meeting in Lexington and be blessed by the Christ-honoring singing and the preaching of the Word by men of God. The messenger meeting affords everyone the wonderful opportunity to visit with friends of many years, make new friends and visit with missionaries and their families. Pastors, please challenge the church that you are privileged to serve and urge the people of God to make it possible for you to attend. Some churches may need to begin a fund now to send their pastor and family.
The messengers met in Lexington in 1998. Dr. Edgar N. “Eddie” Sutton, Director of Meeting Arrangements, works very hard in behalf of the churches to keep prices as low as possible for meals and hotel rooms. Bro. Sutton has recently returned from Lexington in making plans for the meeting. Bro. Sutton is a tireless worker. I commend Bro. Sutton for the many years that he has served and continues to serve in helping the messengers of the churches prepare for the annual meetings.
The American Baptist Association is a fellowship of Missionary Baptist churches laboring together to preach the gospel to the world (Mark 16:15). It is the will of God that His churches be churches of power for His glory! The Bible says in Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” The church of power is:
A PRAYING CHURCH!
The Bible says in Acts 1:14, “These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.” The early church was a church of prayer! Prayer brings the power of God into the work of the church! The very business of the church is prayer (1 Timothy 2:1). Nothing of eternal value is accomplished apart from prayer! The church of power is:
A PREACHING CHURCH!
The means that God has ordained to be used to build up the believers, to grow them, to strengthen them in Jesus Christ is the public proclamation of the Word of God. The words “preach,” “preaching,” “preached,” are found some 35 times in the book of Acts. Our Heavenly Father takes a man of God, puts in his hands the Word of God, fills him with the Spirit of God, and he preaches to the people of God and it brings honor and glory to the Son of God. The church of power is:
A PRAISING CHURCH!
The Bible says in Acts 2:47, “Praising God, and having favour with all the people, And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” Praise denotes approbation, commendation and giving glory to God. Almighty God is worthy of praise!
With the help of God, may the churches of the American Baptist Association be churches of power for His honor and glory! I am looking forward to seeing you in Lexington!
