Minutes Of The Ninth Anniversary

Eastern Baptist Association

June 10th, 11th And 12th, 1881
Held With The First Church Of Surprise Valley,
Modoc County, California

The ANNUAL SERMON was preached by Rev. J. D. Bonner, from 15th and 16th verses of 16th Mark.

MISSIONARY'S REPORT.

The Board agreed to pay me two dollars per day for actual service. During the summer I made five visits to Surprise Valley and in the spring three. Preaching at the Goose School House, Lake City, Metzker School House, Cedarville, Owl Creek and Eagleville. Held one protracted meeting, assisted by Elder H. M. Henderson. Preached at Davis Creek, Lee's Creek and Alturas. Assisted L. E. Henderson in a protracted meeting at Crane Creek. I was assisted at Lake View by Elders H. M. and L. E. Henderson in meetings there. I also preached in the Broback schoolhouse, on the west side of Goose Lake, and find the work at all these places interesting, people kind and generous, and solicitous to have preaching. I see great destitution, while there is none to labor in this great field. Surprise Valley, with its large population, rich in agricultural products, almost entirely unoccupied, while Goose Lake is but little better provided for. I hear the Macedonian cry at all these places, "Come over, and help us," I have labored seventy-six days. Preached eighty-five sermons, delivered forty-five exhortations, held prayer with ninety-two families. Had religious conversations with one hundred and fifty-two persons; baptized four; organized one church; traveled 980 miles; due me $152, for time in the field; received from J. C. Brown, $50; received at Owl Creek school house, $1; received of T. H. Garret, $20; received of Tandy Brothers, $40; received of R. Minto, $10; collected at Metzker school house, $2.50; collection at Lake View, $2.50; Rachel Dorris, $1; H. A. D. Ward, $10, Missionary money from Treasurer, $13.20; total, $150.20; due, $1.80. I learn from R. R. Tandy that Sister Myrtle has uncollected subscriptions to the amount of about $25.
